Going to a Concert? Apple Music Will Deliver a Set List Playlist

Going to a concert of one of your favorite artists can be exciting. It has you streaming the artists’ biggest hits on Spotify or Apple Music, hoping you’ll hear them. While there are ways to find set lists, Apple Music is making it easier, allowing artists to provide their set lists, then turn them into playlists. That makes it much easier.

Apple Music Announces Set List Playlists

Every time I go to a concert, as I wait for the day to arrive, I start listening to the artist non-stop: all my favorite tunes and others that are new to me. I attend with others who always manage to get a set list, and most artists seem to follow them pretty closely.

I’m often making my own wish list playlist so that I can put it on repeat. But Apple Music is going to start doing that for me – or rather, the artists are going to start doing that for me, and Apple Music will be helpful and make it available to me.

On an Apple blog just for artists, the company informed the musicians that they can “Share your Set List playlist” with their fans on Apple Music, as well as social media.

Sure, you can see the set list on setlist.fm, build your own playlist, then use a third-party option to make the set list into a playlist. If you don’t want to do that work yourself, you can count on Apple Music to do it for you.

Apple Working with BandIsInTown

Apple informed the artists via the blog post that they can create their own set list playlist. First, they need to upload an image to Apple that will be used as the cover art of the set list playlist. By the artists doing this, it’s putting them in control of what’s available.

Artists also need to connect with Bandisintown and create an account, keeping it updated with their tour dates. They can also link their show dates to their artist page on Shazam, Spotlight Search, and Apple Maps.

To create a set list, artists select whether it’s a concert, tour, or residency (as in a Vegas residency), add an event manually, through BandIsInTown, or Shazam. Select a date to publish and the tracks they want in their set list. And we will all benefit from these artists doing that. The question is, will artists take the time to do that?

The playlists can be shared with fans on social media through Promote on the Web or the iOS Artists app. Sending fans the set list with tour dates may actually sell more tickets for them as well.

I’m going to a concert next month, and I’ll be watching Apple Music to see if the set list has been added. That would be great. It seems like the most exciting thing to happen to music online since Apple Music started including lyrics. Not a fan of Apple Music or Spotify?
