Changing the Default Browser on Android
It is important to note that the process of changing the default web browser can vary, depending on your device and the version of Android you are using.
Follow the steps below to change the default web browser on an Android 14 device. If you’re using a different version of Android or a different brand of phone, you may find slight differences in the menu names or settings locations.
Head to the device settings (gear icon), and choose Apps -> Default apps. Click the Browser app option.
Choose your preferred browser, and exit the window.
What If I Want a Web Browser That Isn’t Listed?
You may want to use a web browser that isn’t listed, such as Microsoft Edge or Opera. The easiest way to make a web browser that isn’t listed the default is by downloading it from the Play Store.
Head to the Play Store, enter your preferred browser, and click Install. Once the download is complete, the browser will appear in your list of options when you change your default browser.
If you are unable to install the browser you want from the Play Store (for instance, if you are looking for a specific version of that web browser), install it via an APK file. It’s one of the best Google Play Store alternatives, and there are quite a few websites that let you download APK files safely.
If you are going down this route, we recommend that you scan APK files to check whether they have a virus, just to stay safe.
Android Web Browsers We Recommend
When it comes to choosing a web browser, there are quite a few options. Google Chrome is the most obvious choice, thanks to its fast performance and ability to integrate with other Google services.
If privacy is your priority, you may want to check out Brave. It blocks ads and trackers automatically. (There are other impressive Brave features as well.)
Similarly, Edge is another solid choice. It is built on Chromium, like Chrome, so you can enjoy similar speed and compatibility with websites, alongside additional features, like a built-in ad blocker.
What Should I Look for in a Web Browser for Android?
If you want to switch to a different browser, it is important to look for some key features that can make your browsing experience better.
The first is speed. Look for a browser that is known for quick load times, especially if you are planning to stream content. Next, check out the browser’s privacy features – look for one that blocks trackers and ads if you want more control over your data.
Usability is also important. A simple, intuitive interface can make your browsing experience more enjoyable.
